UX Sound Design for Crescendo x Mystery vibe
For this project, I was given an open brief to create a sonic user experience for the Crescendo app. The goal was to enhance the user experience in a way that felt natural and immersive, without disrupting the moment.
To achieve this, I began by researching human associations with sex, pleasure, and intimacy. This research informed my approach, leading me to design and record subtle sounds like breaths, heartbeats, and skin contact. These elements created an intimate ASMR experience that felt both organic and exciting.
The 'Vibe' selection sounds were crafted as arpeggiations of low to high-pitch vibrating oscillations. These sounds represent the intensity and location of the vibrations within the device, allowing users to scroll through options without needing to look at the app. Swipe sounds were designed to mimic the sensation of fingers lightly running across the skin, adding a tactile dimension to the experience. Forward taps were represented by inhales of anticipation, while backward taps were indicated by exhales or releases. For the Bluetooth connection menus, I created soft, digital sounds with a rounded, organic feel.
Throughout the process, I experimented with various digital, organic, and melodic elements until we settled on a sound that was both natural and stimulating. The final sound design enhanced the Crescendo app, making it more engaging and immersive for users.
Role: Sound Design
Looking for toys
This repetitive action could last for extended periods, so the sound needed to be neutral to avoid irritation. An organic clicking sound was chosen to represent a sonar, searching for the device while remaining unobtrusive to the listener.
Toy Found
Once the toy is found, you hear the sound of breaths, manipulated to create anticipation and excitement while maintaining the overall theme of intimacy and playfulness.
Bluetooth Connection Search
Just like the "Looking for toys" action, this also had the potential to repeat for long periods, so the sound needed to be neutral. Staying true to the theme of intimacy, a heartbeat sound was designed to simulate the anticipation of connection.
Bluetooth Connected
The 'Connected' sound is represented by a major note to provide a positive affirmation of connection.
Bluetooth Connection Failed
The 'Connection Failed' sound is represented by a minor note to indicate a failed connection. Despite being a negative feedback, it remains a pleasant sound, in keeping with the overall theme.
Navigation Sounds
Fitting with the theme, taps are organic and satisfying while feeling intuitive. The sound of inhales plays when selecting navigation items that advance the user through a menu, simulating the feeling of touch. Exhales are played when navigating backwards.
