Mystery Vibe | UX Sound DesignClient: Mystery Vibe Production: Condiment Junkie Sound Design: George Hill
MysteryVibe approached Multi-sensory agency, Condiment Junkie, with an open brief to design the sonic user experience for the Crescendo app, which pairs with their flagship smart vibrator. The goal was to elevate the user journey through sound, creating an interface that felt intuitive, sensual, and immersive, without distracting from the moment or interrupting the experience of intimacy. I led the sound design for MysteryVibe’s Crescendo app, given a blank canvas to create a sonic language of intimacy that supported eyes-free navigation and enhanced sensory engagement. Through subtle ASMR-inspired sounds including breaths, skin contact, and heartbeat pulses, I shaped an audio experience that felt organic, playful, and emotionally intuitive.
Bluetooth Connection Search
This action had the potential to repeat for long periods, so the sound needed to be neutral. Staying true to the theme of intimacy, a heartbeat sound was designed to simulate the anticipation of connection.
Bluetooth Connection Failed
The 'Connection Failed' sound is represented by a minor note to indicate a failed connection. Despite being negative feedback, it remains a pleasant sound, in keeping with the overall theme.
Bluetooth Connected
The 'Connected' sound is represented by a major note to provide a positive affirmation of connection. A harp was chosen as the timbre of this sound due to its associations with elegance, tenderness and romance.
Looking For Toys
Much like with bluetooth connection search, this repetitive action could last for extended periods, so the sound needed to be neutral to avoid fatigue. A soft, organic clicking sound was chosen to represent a sonar, searching for the device while remaining unobtrusive to the listener.
Toy found
Once the toy is found, you hear the sound of breaths, manipulated to create anticipation and excitement whilst syncing with the motion of the visual and maintaining the overall theme of intimacy and playfulness.
